Meet the Traditional Artisans of Florence, Italy

Florence, Italy has been synonomous with fine craftmanship for over a thousand years! The modern era has brought many changes to Italian society, but here in Florence many family run artisan workshops still continue to ply their trades today as they have down through the generations.

Many commercial artisan tours just take you on a circuit through the well-known Oltrarno neighborhoods of Santo Spirito and San Frediano.  I'll show you these neighborhoods too, of course, but I will also lead you on a voyage of discovery to the most authentic and historic artisan workshops wherever they are:  in the Oltrarno, hidden away on backstreets, or in quiet piazzas far from the bustle of the busy tourist center.

Personal Introductions and Customized Itineraries

Why be part of a group Artisan tour?  When a cluster of people crowd into the door, the artisan usually stops what he's doing and launches into some rehearsed explanation about how authentic his work is.  Wouldn't you rather stop in with a friend for a genuine conversation?  I've gotten to know the family shops by living in the city and spending my time in the neighborhoods.  Whether it's leather goods, hand painted ceramics, fine jewelry, prints, mosiac inlay, or anything else, I can lead you to places that you could never find on your own and introduce you to the living history of Europe's greatest artisitc tradition of handcraft and artisanry.
